Charlita Ablakwa, Esquire - Executive Director/President

Charlita is a Sole Practitioner of COTA Immigration Law Firm. She has served the Immigration community since 2008. She files Family Petitions, Religious Visa Petitions, Extension of Stays, SIJS visa etc. She has provided services to Immigrants assisting them in filing several petitions. She has over ten years of legal experience in Family Law and Immigration services. She provided pro bono counsel for D.C. Superior court and also in Ohio in the area of child abuse and neglect for ten years. She has also unified families through various Immigration petitions. She has spoken at various Immigration Seminars and has provided Pro Bono consultations for residents in the DMV area.

Samuel Adewusi, Esquire - President-Elect

Samuel Adewusi is a practicing attorney in Maryland and Washington, D.C. His practice areas include immigration law, family law, international business transactions, and personal injury laws. Moreover, he is a skilled negotiator in complex contract transactions.

He graduated from David Clarke School of Law University of District of Columbia, with BA in Political Science in 1991. In 1995, he obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) degree from David Clarke School of Law.  In May, 2020 he will obtain his Master of Science degree in Cyber-Security Law and Policy from Carey School of Law University of Maryland.

Mr. Adewusi was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1996 and the District of Columbia Bar in 1998. He served on the DC Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel from 1997 to 2001. In 2005, Mr. Adewusi was admitted to the US Supreme Court Bar.  He is the principal at the Law Office of Samuel G. Adewusi.  His office is located in Silver Spring, Maryland.  His areas of practice are Immigration Law, Personal Injury and Family and Domestic Relations Law.

Mr. Adewusi served as the Chairman, Continental Board of Trustees, Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA) from 2015 to 2017.  And he was the past President of the African Artists Collaborative, Inc; President, Edgewood Technology Advisory Board from 2001 to 2016; and President, Grace Rural Integration, Inc.

Goodman Onyilagha, Esquire – Treasurer

Goodman Onyilagha, MBA, JD is the founder and owner of Onyl Law. He is an experienced attorney residing in the state of Maryland. He received his business degree in Accounting at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, then went along to further his education at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock with an MBA. In 2013, Goodman enrolled at the University of Dayton where in 2016 he graduated with his Law degree. His diverse background having lived in Nigeria, England, Canada and the US, give him tremendous experience in the practice of Immigration on a global scale. Furthermore he is a newer resident of Maryland who is excited to build connections and relationships as he engages in community development programs/activities.

Mercy Idoko, Esquire – Secretary/General Counsel

Mercy O. Idoko has worked for over 9 years in the public safety, law, and Legal mediation field holding various  positions with Prince George’s County State’s Attorneys Office and Previously as a Facilitative legal mediator with Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center.  

Mercy has been on the Nigerians in Diaspora Board and is the Founder & Success planning Coach/Immigrant Consultant at Seehomeland Agency, an Immigrant financial Planing Agency. Mercy has authored two children’s book – “Social Norms for Teenagers, and The Adventures of the Young Politician” 

Toyin Ademuwagun, Esquire – Law Student President

Toyin Ademuwagun is a sole practitioner attorney with Toyin Ademuwagun Law Firm in Baltimore, Maryland.  She studied law at Obafemi Awolowo University and the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigeria Bar in 1995.  After two years of General Practice in Nigeria, she proceeded to the United States in 1997.  She holds a Juris Doctor degree from William Mitchell College of Law, Saint Paul, Minnesota and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. 

She is licensed to practice law in Maryland and Washington, D.C., and is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and United States District Court of Maryland. Her area of practice covers family law, immigration law, accident and personal injury cases.   She is a member of the Baltimore City Bar Association, American Immigration Lawyers Association and American Bar.

Toyin is also an ordained minister in Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide and does a lot of community work in Baltimore, Maryland.

Emmanuel Shoeneide - Communication Director

Mr. Shodeinde is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he studied international relations with a minor in African Studies. After graduating, Mr. Shodeinde took two years off before attending law schools d obtaining his JD at Barry University School of Law in Orlando, Florida. He then went on to secure his MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst graduating at the top of class graduating cum laude.

Mr. Shodeinde’s legal experience includes general and government Contracts, small businesses, Employment, Immigration, estate planning and administration and Criminal law. He is the managing partner at the Shodeinde Firm where he focuses on managing small businesses for success and building estate plans for his clients under the firms mantra: quality and efficient legal services are reserved for all.

He is dedicated to helping NALA grow and is ready to get to work at making NALA a reputable bar organization.
